Pediatric/ Pregnancy Chiropractic Care
The most common response to this topic is "why would there ever be a need to adjust a child?" That's a very fair question!
First and foremost, the treatment on a child is not what you would normally think of. The amount of pressure needed to get adequate movement in a child's spinal joints and nervous system is nothing compared to what it takes for someone with 40 years of damage.
Let's go all the way back to birth. If you look at videos of the typical birth in the United States you CANNOT miss seeing that the physician is literally twisting and pulling your baby's head and neck. Trauma #1.
And what about all of the bumps and falls that baby has with every major milestone? Sitting up,crawling, standing, walking, running. Not to mention all that happens when they fall off the bed, out of the tree or in the park. Trauma #2.
If you and I took a fall like that we would be feeling it for weeks. Just because your child's joints are more lax does not mean that their spine doesn't experience trauma and dysfunction from such events. Now,the good news is that fixing these bumps and falls are very easy, very gentle and take very few treatments.
And so this brings me to the controversial stories that we all hear. Chiropractic care is used for colic, asthma, ear infections, bed wetting, etc. Again, you're right! It is unconventional, but taking into consideration the side effects of conventional, our care is something to consider.
Pediatric chiropractic care is gentle and safe and there are minimal side effects. Actually, nothing compared to pharmaceuticals and surgeries. Lastly, to answer the question of how an adjustment can cure those things, your nervous system my friend! Your body's entire circuit board is in your nervous system which also runs intimately within your spine. Fix the dysfunction within your spine and you also balance the neurological signals to the entire body.
So, in common pediatric conditions where there is no conventional treatment (colic, bed wetting, common cold) why not try chiropractic care, especially, if it helps. In common childhood conditions, there are concerning side effects of conventional treatments, and many times it just covers up the true problem until it peaks and rears its head again (ear infections, asthma, allergies). Again, if there is no risk in chiropractic treatment and it will help, why not? Then you can fall back on something stronger when and if it's needed.
In closing, I will be the first to tell you that natural does not always have the strength to fix it all. And that is precisely what we pride ourselves on at Paun Family Wellness. Knowing how to sit in the middle and ultimately do what is best for the child. If what we do can't or won't help, we will refer to another physician in a heartbeat because your child's health and safety is ultimately what we are teaching and preaching.
I would also like to add that I live this out with my own children. When they start with a fever, I will adjust as a means to help lower it and boost immunity. Many, many times, they have started with projectile vomiting to which I will use adjustments and acupuncture and it ALWAYS stops immediately. But, I still have a back up pediatrician that I run to when my mommy alarm over rides my natural doctor alarm and that has only happened twice. At the end of the day, it is your family and your choice and I hope to give you a little understanding of the options and benefits you have in pediatric chiropractic care. |
